Police investigating shark attack near Lovers Point in Pacific Grove
Hello everyone. This is Christian Bowl. There is with Chase BW We’re out here in pacific Grove at Lover’s Point. As there was *** shark attack. Police got reports about an hour, hour and *** half ago of *** shark attack and the victim is in the hospital after sustaining some bites. We are still working to confirm the severity of those injuries. Lover’s Point Beach is currently closed. All the pacific Grove beaches will be closed. They’re currently closed actually. Um The rest of the beaches out on the peninsula are still open at Sila mar State Beach is of course still open though. That is still pending. As you can see behind me. We have the police out here as well as firefighters. Coastguards currently out on the water who find the shark right now. It’s only confirmed that there’s one shark on the water. Um they’re also using the drone trying to spot the shark. They are watching that over there. We’ll walk over there later. Um I can see there’s *** bunch of people still joining being added right now. So again, to repeat myself. There is *** shark attack that just happened about an hour and *** half ago. We start reports about an hour and *** half ago of *** shark attack out at Lovers Point in pacific Grove. The victim is in the hospital after sustaining some injuries. The severity of those injuries are still not confirmed. Um That’s the Lover’s Point Beach pacific Grove currently closed. All the pacific Grove beaches are currently closed beaches across the peninsula are still open though. That can still change. They’re looking for the shark out on the water via uh via the Coast Guard as well as the drone that the Fire Department is deploying right now. Here’s *** look at the scene. I’ll flip it over. So this beach right here is going to be lovers Point that is closed. We have police over here patrolling the area. Lover’s Point in terms of the park is still open. We have *** bunch of kids out here who are still playing. Um if we go down here back way over there, we have the firefighters who are deploying *** drone again to search for that shark that is still most likely in this area. We also have the Coast Guard who is aware of the attack and they’re out looking for the shark as well. And again, the victim is in the hospital. The severity of those injuries has still not been confirmed. It is, it is *** pretty busy day out here and it is, it is generating *** lot of, *** lot of activity. People are very curious about what’s going on. But again, we will confirm those details as soon as we get them. Alright. Right. Absolutely everything. They have been spotted before in terms of how far out are surfer went? Um That has not been confirmed either. Officials have told KSBW 8 the attack happened about 150 yards from the beach. City officials reported that the surfer suffered major injuries to the stomach and leg. He was taken to the hospital. Pacific Grove beaches will be closed until Saturday, June 25, 2022, have been closed. Asilomar State Beach remains open. The Coast Guard and other first responders searched for the shark after the attack, even using a drone to fly over the water to try and spot it. According to the Pacific Grove Police Department, a man was attacked by a shark around 10:35 am near Lovers Point. Officials have told KSBW 8 the attack happened about 150 yards from the beach.
City officials reported that the surfer suffered major injuries to the stomach and leg. He was taken to the hospital.
Pacific Grove beaches will be closed until Saturday, June 25, 2022, have been closed. Asilomar State Beach remains open.
The Coast Guard and other first responders searched for the shark after the attack, even using a drone to fly over the water to try and spot it.
