A Baltimore County police officer was shot Saturday night and a suspect is dead after a shooting in Towson. Police said officers heard gunfire from one of the apartments, and the officers exchanged gunfire with the suspect, killing the suspect.Police said officers found another person who was shot inside the apartment building, suffering life-threatening injuries.Police said an officer was shot and injured, but did not specify the extent of his injuries.”I can’t express how grateful I am to them for responding to that sound of gunfire for going toward the danger, for protecting the community. We’ve seen frightening incidents occurring across the country right now. They followed their training. They did exactly what we ask them to do and they did their job tonight,” Baltimore County Police Chief Melissa Hyatt said. Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski released a statement, saying the officer is expected to recover: “A Baltimore County police officer was shot this evening while responding to an emergency call. It is another reminder of how our first responders courageously put themselves in danger every day, running into unknown situations to protect the community. I have visited the officer in the hospital and have been told he should expect a full recovery.”On Sunday, Baltimore County Councilman David Marks, R-District 5, posted on his Facebook page, “I spoke to Chief of Police Melissa Hyatt, and am passing along some optimistic news about the police officer’s recovery. He was fairly new to the Baltimore County Police Department, and his training clearly helped him and his colleagues in a very difficult situation.
