The estranged wife of missing 7-year-old Harmony Montgomery’s father has been arrested on perjury charges, News 9 investigates has learned. Kayla Montgomery was arrested on Friday in the lobby of the Manchester Police Department by the Manchester Police when she arrived for her daily check-in per bail conditions.Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg told WMUR’s Amy Coveno she was arrested on two counts of perjury for lying to a grand jury. The nature of what she allegedly lied about has not been released. She was being held at the Valley Street jail in Manchester and is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday. Kayla Montgomery was indicted on a charge of theft by deception in late March. She is accused of claiming that Harmony was still a member of her household, even though the girl was not living with her and Adam Montgomery at the time. Prosecutors said Kayla Montgomery claimed more than $1,500 in benefits to which she was not entitled. The charge is not related to Harmony’s disappearance. Last month, a judge ordered her release on a $5,000 unsecured appearance bond, meaning she didn’t have to pay up forehead. She was required to check in daily in person at the Manchester Police Department and to continue with substance abuse treatment. In an exclusive statement to News 9, Chief Aldenberg said, “The arrest of Kayla Montgomery is another step in the investigation into the whereabouts of Harmony Montgomery. We will continue to do everything in our power to bring this case to a resolution.”It’s believed that Harmony went missing between Nov. 28 and Dec. 10, 2019, but police did not learn of her disappearance for more than two years.Harmony’s 8th birthday is on Tuesday.In a statement to News 9, Harmony’s mother Crystal Sorey said, Karma is real. I knew she wouldn’t last long and I hope this only brings us closer to bringing Harmony home.” News 9 interviewed Sorey over Zoom Saturday evening. She said she hopes these charges lead to finding her daughter.”I’m hoping we get some answers this month,” Sorey said. Sorey said she thinks Kayla knows more than she is letting on.”A lot of people try to get me down by saying ‘she’s deceased, she’s deceased,’ and I refuse to believe that until I see the proof,” Sorey said.
